Topic: Chapter 21 – Triduum and Easter

Main Ideas:

  • The Easter Triduum is our greatest celebration of the Paschal Mystery.
  • The Triduum begins and ends at sundown, following the Jewish tradition of marking the day as beginning at sundown and ending at sundown of the next day.
  • The Evening Mass of the Lord’s Supper begins the Easter Triduum.
  • On Good Friday, we celebrate the Lord’s Passion.
  • On Holy Saturday we celebrate the Easter Vigil which includes the celebration of the Sacraments of Christian Initiation
  • The Easter season is a special time to rejoice over the new life we have in Christ
  • The colors of Easter are white and gold as they are the colors of light, life and Resurrection.  Gold is a sign of God and Heaven.
  • The season of Easter lasts fifty days and ends on Pentecost Sunday.

Topic: Chapter 8 – The Coming of the Holy Spirit

Main Ideas:

  • On Pentecost the Holy Spirit came upon the first disciples.
  • Laying on of hands and anointing are signs of the Holy Spirit’s presence.
  • In Confirmation we become more like Christ and are strengthened to be his witnesses.
  • Preparation is an important part of Confirmation.

Lesson #11 – January 7, 2019

Topic: The First, Second and Third Commandments.

Main Ideas:

  • The First Commandment today means that we should not worship wealth, power and status. These things become a substitute for one true God, when one devotes most of their time and energy to acquire them. It is another form of idol worship.  We wrote a recipe that show our love for God.
  • The Second Commandment. The Lord’s name is holy and for this reason we must not abuse it. We did a word scramble to find names for God and we wrote a prayer.
  • The Third Commandment. Sunday is meant to be different. We are to go to church and worship. We did some diagramming with the four parts/rites of Mass.
